Suspected carbon monoxide poisoning results in death of two youths near P.A.

Two youths have died in tragic circumstances in a nearby community.

According to an RCMP media release issued late Wednesday, the cause appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

The 12-year-old boy and the 13-year-old girl were cousins and close friends. Both were visiting the residence at a recreational community in the P.A. RCMP detachment area with family members. Emergency crews found the children deceased upon arrival.

“This is an incredibly tragic incident. We are releasing limited details to give the families privacy during what must be an unimaginably difficult time,” RCMP said in the media release. “As such, we will not be providing any further information and will not be conducting media interviews.”

Fire and EMS responded to the call first around 1:40 p.m. July 9.

Preliminary investigation suggests the deaths are attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning. The deaths are not considered suspicious.

All other occupants of the home were assessed by EMS and no one else required medical treatment.

RCMP also noted that the families of the youths involved are asking for privacy following the incident.

The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service continues to investigate.
