Case of Naicam residents accused in drug trafficking to go to trial

Jul 11, 2019 | 11:10 AM

Two Naicam residents who are facing drug and weapon charges will face trial.

Chance Corey Keller, born 1989, and Brittany Dawn Simonson, born 1995, pleaded not guilty to three charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Both were charged after an RCMP traffic stop in Nipawin on May 20. During a search of the vehicle, police seized 63 grams of methamphetamine, 23 hydromorphone pills, and 68 buprenorphine pills.

Officers also found bear spray, drug paraphernalia, and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Keller was denied bail in Nipawin Provincial Court July 10.

Simonson will reappear in Nipawin court on Aug. 21 for a conditional sentence order review after she was charged with a breach during the traffic stop.

Co-accused Zack Donald Nowlin, born 1990, faces similar charges and will appear in Nipawin court Oct. 2 for a preliminary inquiry hearing. The hearing will determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial.

The trials for both Keller and Simonson are set for Oct. 23.
