Community Sidewalk Sale a celebration of Battleford and its heritage

Nothing says summertime like a horse and wagon ride through Battleford.

The Battleford Community Spirit Group Sidewalk Sale is July 18 from 4 to 8 p.m.

An event for all ages, the event will bring Battleford to life, as the street will be blocked off from the Co-op to the post office with horse and wagon rides touring the town, which will touch on some of the historical buildings, and meaningful heritage sites within the community.

The tours will be commentated, with a guide aboard to lend insights to the historical significance of the stops along the way.

The day will feature a farmer’s market and various craft and food outlets, with about 50 vendors expected at the event in its inaugural year.

Committee organizer Gail Sack said the idea for the event came about as a way to celebrate the town, and heritage, of the Battleford community.

“A group of us got together thinking that we didn’t really have an organization in the town anymore that promoted the spirit of Battleford,” she said. “We have a lot of new residents in the town and people who have come from different areas that aren’t familiar with our town, and we just thought, what better way than to have a little summer fair and have everybody come together and get to know their neighbors.”

In addition to music provided by a local band under the town’s gazebo, there will be a street performer and activities for the children to take part in including face painting.

With several-hundred people expected to attend throughout the day, Sack said the traction the event has gained, and subsequent support has been reflective of the very spirit of the Battleford community the event is hoping to highlight.

“We’ve had amazing feedback, it’s been very positive,” she said. “Everybody’s just excited to have this [event] and we were thrilled to have so many vendors and people on board.”
