Melfort’s Back Alley Tour back for third year

Jul 16, 2019 | 3:50 PM

The Back Alley Tour is back for a third consecutive year in Melfort on Thursday, July 18 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Artists will be in the back alley behind the Northern Lights Gallery to show off their work and share ideas. Gallery Manager Sandra Dancey said the event is a great way to get some exposure for artists.

“There are many, many really talented artists in the neighborhood, as in the northeast part of the province, and I have known of them for the 20 some years that I’ve lived around here,” she said. “But a lot of them would be doing their art in their basement or in their backyard, and the general population didn’t get to see it.”

She said hosting the event in the alley is a nice way to keep it small for the artists.

“That’s why the Back Alley Tour fits in so nicely,” Dancey told. “It’s unassuming, it’s not right out in the middle of Main Street, it’s just around the corner. They all like to get together and share ideas and you get to see all of the amazing art that they do.”

Sharon Walker, Terry O’Flanagan, Linsey Levendall, and many more artists are expected to attend.

“You know them to see them, and you didn’t realize what really incredible artists they are,” Dancey said.

Dancey said the event grows each year.

The Northeast SPCA will serve hot dogs at the event, and the Melfort Legion will also be holding a rib supper. With inclement weather, Dancey said if it starts to rain the tour will take place in the Historic Post Office. The location will be decided on by Thursday morning.
