Two people were injured after a driver ran into a highway signage trailer on Highway 16 Monday afternoon west of Delmas.

RCMP said an eastbound vehicle struck a highway signage trailer that was attached to a Ministry of Highway’s truck and caused significant damage.

A highway work zone was set up at the time as the ministry was working on the roadway with equipment and signage indicating work was in progress.

The driver of the vehicle towing the signage trailer was treated on scene for minor injuries.

A 26-year-old female driver, who was the only person in the eastbound vehicle, was transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released after treatment.

Officers said charges are pending as the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are reminding motorists to slow down to 60 km/h when they approach highway work zones.

Fines start at $240 plus $6 for every km/h above the speed limit and this doubles with speeds greater than 30 km/h over the speed limit.

For example, a driver going 100 km/h in a work zone would be fined $530.
