LLRIB hosts women’s retreat on Bigstone Lake
A women’s retreat on Bigstone Lake last weekend continues to provide rejuvenation for all those in attendance.
The event is organized by Lac La Ronge Indian Band Coun. Ann Ratt, as well as Lillian Sanderson and Edna Merasty. This year marks the fifth time the retreat has taken place at the Youth Haven site and Ratt stated 37 ladies participated, making it one of the most successful gatherings yet. She noted it’s for women 18 years and older, adding there are no children allowed during the weekend.
“They come out to relax, rejuvenate and meet other ladies,” Ratt said. “We have presentations about well-being whether its self-esteem or healthy relationships or traditional parenting. Sometimes we have talks on menopause or how to discipline your children properly.”
Most of the activities occurred on Saturday as the women were treated to massages, pedicures, manicures and more. The majority of those who participate at the retreat do so on Saturday, while about 12 arrive Friday and sleep at the site until Sunday. Ratt mentioned everything including meals was free and the event was open to ladies whether they were Indigenous or not.
