Miracle Treat Day coming up, a boost to children’s health

Families can help a child and enjoy a sweet treat at the same time at Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day event coming up across Canada.

All net proceeds from Blizzard treats sold on Aug. 8 benefit the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon, the only Saskatchewan member of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

This marks the 17th year of Dairy Queen’s annual event.

North Battleford Dairy Queen owner/operator Terry Burnett is looking forward to the popular fundraiser.

“We have always had really good community support for it,” he said. “All the money raised at this store and every store in Saskatchewan actually stays in Saskatchewan. It all goes to the Jim Pattison’s Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon. It is something we are very passionate about here. Last year at our store alone, we donated over $10,000 to the Children’s Hospital. This year we are hoping to beat that goal.”

“Dairy Queen has been part of the Children’s Miracle Network for over 35 years,” Burnett said. “To date, over $145 million has been raised across North America from DQ’s.”

Last year in Canada $3.5 million was raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in total. This year the goal is $3.6 million.

Burnett said the local Dairy Queen will have a variety of kids’ activities taking place during Miracle Treat Day to celebrate.

“It’s a fun day,” he said.
