Helping wishes come true

A sweet way to raise money

Over the course of only two days, over $11,000 has been raised province wide through lemonade and snow cone sales.

It’s all part of the Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan group’s Lemonade for Wishes campaign. In Prince Albert on Thursday, the Prince Albert Kinettes group and Grant Thornton Accounting Firm were competing for the coveted lemonade trophy. Tanya Allan, President of the Prince Albert Kinettes said they were thrilled to help out.

“We are a community organization that does serve the community’s greatest needs and we really feel making wishes happen here in Prince Albert is definitely serving the community’s needs,” she said.

The lemonade for wishes campaign runs until Sept. 1 and the foundation has set a goal of $15,000. Each wish granted by the wish kids can cost an average of $10,000 and may include meeting a famous athlete, a trip to Disneyland or even a new boat as seen recently by the Chester family in Prince Albert.

Lisa Glines’s two daughters, Ella and Rachel, are both wish kids and they both helped judge the Prince Albert contest on Thursday.

“They go through so much being medically complex kids that your average child does not have to endure so just knowing that wish is upcoming is good old fashioned family fun they don’t get to normally experience otherwise,” Glines said.

Ella, 7, and Rachel, 5, both have a condition called Alagille Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the liver, heart and other parts of the body. Ella had her wish to go to Disneyworld to meet the Princesses, granted in January. Rachel has yet to make her wish.
