Children and families will now have another way to beat the heat for the remainder of summer.

Melfort’s Splash Park and playground at Spruce Haven is officially operational following a trial run from Aug. 2 to 5. Construction of both the splash park and playground began in the spring and finished nearly a month ahead of schedule.

“We had some power issues due to some storm activity over the weekend, but that’s all been rectified and everything is back up and running in fine form,” Melfort City Manager Ryan Danberg said. “We look forward to seeing as many kids as we can for the next little while.”

City staff will be able to temporarily shut down the splash park in the event of a storm.

While construction is complete, Danberg said the city still has some landscaping to do near the splash park and playground, although it’s expected to begin in the fall once the splash park is closed for the season.

The splash park will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as long as the weather permits.
