Dinner-concert fundraiser planned for September to benefit hospital, humanitarian effort

Those who love the golden oldies tunes will be in for a treat with an upcoming dinner-concert fundraiser.

Organizers are planning an event called Rock And Rattle at the Alex Dillabough Centre in Battleford on Sept. 28.

Half the funds raised will benefit the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation to purchase equipment for maternity health at the hospital.

The remainder will be directed to the Hope of Life International charity organization for humanitarian aid efforts in Guatemala, to support material costs to help build a house for a family in need, as well as to set up health clinics in rural villages there.

Fundraiser committee co-chairs Dianne Becotte and Sue Pruden-McIvor are part of the volunteer group that will be taking part in the initiative in Guatemala.

“The whole part of the fundraiser is with the Battlefords Hospital Foundation; it is to help babies,” Becotte said. She noted when the volunteer teams goes to Guatemala they hope to have the same effect: “To help make families stronger, and give them the opportunity to get clean water, food and shelter that we all take for granted.”

Pruden-McIvor, who is also a retired BUH nurse, said the fundraiser event will also include a silent auction, followed by a dance at the end of the evening.

The entertainment for the concert will be provided by Meota Musical Productions with Charles Baillargeon and his wife Anne producing the live concert part of the evening that features a number of musicians performing popular songs from the ‘60s, ’70s and ‘80s.

Baillargeon said he saw great success with a fundraiser concert-only night in Meota Aug. 4 to support the BUH Foundation. The event, which was sold out, raised $6,839 – including funds from a silent auction. So he hopes the next show will be as successful.

“We were extremely pleased with how much we raised,” Baillargeon said. “We had a lot of people who travelled large distances to come to this concert,” adding that people came from the area as well as Saskatoon and Loon Lake to attend.

He said the response the show received “was terrific.”

“I’m so pleased we were able to attract that kind of talent; it made a huge impact,” he said.

Many of the performers in the August show will also take part at the September event.
