Residents are encouraged to register their pets for the Western College of Veterinary Medicine’s mobile vet clinic at Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre

The three-day event is scheduled to start Sept. 6 as veterinarian from the University of Saskatchewan will be available starting that day. In total, there are 80 openings for general vet checks while another 80 spots are open for dogs or cats needing to be neutered or spayed. Dr. Jordan Woodsworth stated the clinic continues to be popular and recommends residents to register their pets sooner rather than later.

“We’re always sort of finding earlier and earlier we have people calling in or emailing their forms to register,” she said. “We’re continuing to have a lot of advanced enthusiasm and lots of folks coming while we are in the community to try and get their animals in too, which is really wonderful.”

In order to register, residents need to print a form found here and either email or fax it to the information provided. Those who send an email should receive a reply confirming the application was received and Woodsworth stated everyone who received an appointment should receive a text message confirming the time by Sept. 4.

The U of S has been hosting the bi-annual clinic in La Ronge for many years now. Woodsworth noted it serves to support students in their fourth year of veterinarian studies, adding dozens of others in the program also attend.

“It’s a really good opportunity for us as an organization, as a branch of the university and as a profession to help to fill some gaps that exist in veterinarian services, especially in the North,” she said.
