Three northeast residents who are facing drug and weapon charges will have their trials on the same day.

Naicam resident Brittany Dawn Simonson, born 1995, appeared in Nipawin Provincial Court on Wednesday, Aug. 21 for a conditional sentence order review after she was charged with a breach during the traffic stop. Although both the Crown and defence counsel agreed to not proceed with it and go straight ahead with the trial. She pleaded not guilty to three charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Fellow Naicam resident Chance Corey Keller, born 1989, was denied bail in Nipawin court July 10. He also pleaded not guilty to similar charges Simonson has.

The third of the co-accused, Zack Donald Nowlin from Nipawin, born 1990, appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on Tuesday, Aug. 20 for a show hearing facing similar charges. He was denied bail by Judge Margaret Gordon.

Nowlin initially requested a preliminary inquiry hearing in Nipawin court on Oct. 2 to determine if there was sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial, although he re-elected to go through a bail hearing.

All three were charged after an RCMP traffic stop in Nipawin on May 20. During a search of the vehicle, police seized 63 grams of methamphetamine, 23 hydromorphone pills, and 68 buprenorphine pills.

Officers also found bear spray, drug paraphernalia, and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Keller, Nowlin, and Simonson will appear in Nipawin court on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for their trials.
