A police shooting at a home on the Fishing Lake First Nation has left a man dead.

RCMP said in a release that at around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, Wadena RCMP got a report of a man who was armed with a knife and causing a disturbance.

Two RCMP officers responded to the scene where they found the man outside of a home. Police said the man was shot shortly after the two members arrived.

Paramedics made attempts to give him first aid but were unsuccessful.

The man’s family has been notified of his passing but his name is not being released.

Moose Jaw police will be investigating the shooting and the RCMP has asked the Ministry of Justice for independent oversight.
