Major Lac La Ronge Provincial Park campgrounds closed until 2020
Although the major campgrounds in the Lac La Ronge Provincial Park are now closed, some of the smaller ones are still open until the end of the month.
Nut Point, Nemeiben Lake and Wadin Bay Campgrounds all closed following Labour Day, but the Churchill River, Devils Lake, Little Deer, MacKay Lake and Missinipe campgrounds remain open. According to Park Manager Natasha Merriman, campgrounds had great occupancy between May and September even though the weather wasn’t the best.
“Staff are starting to work on campground shut down, which includes blowing out waterlines, painting, building and dock maintenance and replacement,” she said in an email. “Staff also have a trip planned to make repairs to the portage at Rapid River. Ski trail maintenance will start later in the fall.”
Since May, Lac La Ronge Visitor Centre Manager Judy Hanke stated locals and tourists from all over the world stopped in. She didn`t know the numbers yet for the summer, but Hanke believes more people entered the building compared to the same time period in 2018. Some tourists came from Australia, China, Spain, United States, Alberta and other parts of Saskatchewan.
