LLRIB launches scavenger hunt in effort to clean community

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) has come up with a creative solution to encourage members to keep the community clean.

A scavenger hunt began Monday with a $300 top prize for the first person to make their way through 10 clues. According to LLRIB Coun. Ann Ratt, the hunt will last until Sept. 30 unless first, second and third place are all taken by then. Once the top prizes are gone, everyone who made it to the fifth clue will have their name placed in a draw for a chance to win one of five gift certificates.

“I figured fall is coming and we really need to get people cleaning up their yards and the ditches around them,” Ratt said. “I thought if there is an incentive behind it, maybe it would get people going.”

The rules to the hunt are simple and the first step residents should do is collect one grocery bag of garbage and bring it to Francis Ratt or April Bird at the housing department. Those employees will collect the garbage and provide a clue, and the participant must go out and complete the task at hand. Once the task is complete, they then collect more bags of garbage and bring them back to the housing department.

Ratt noted some clues require more than one bag of garbage, but the overall goal is cleaning the community. She added the clues were also developed to get participants touring the community or meeting people they otherwise have never meet before.

“An example would be going to take a selfie with one of the teachers at Bells Point School,” Ratt said. “Some of them require signatures, so they have to go talk to a staff member in the community. It kind of gets them to learn more about the community while they are cleaning it up.”
