Almost Home Canine Rescue saves 20 dogs from Stanley Mission
Twenty dogs from Stanley Mission have a second chance at life due to the efforts of Almost Home Canine Rescue from Calgary.
“We’ve been rescuing dogs for the last couple of years now, and there are so many dogs out there you pretty much have to pick one spot and concentrate on that one area and hopefully you make a difference,” said Rescue Founder Dawn MacDonald. “We rescue all over the place; wherever they need us the most. We get a nice feeling from people in Stanley Mission and we like the people up there.”
MacDonald arrived in Stanley Mission at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and she and fellow volunteer Logan Lovgren spent the night sleeping in their vehicle waiting to pick up strays this morning. The duo had somewhat of a rough trip reaching the northern community as the van they were travelling in broke down in Rosetown. MacDonald noted they were fortunate, however, as the local Dodge dealership lent them a vehicle so they could complete the journey.
In total, MacDonald has made five trips to Stanley Mission and Almost Home Canine Rescue has saved 60 dogs when including this week’s pick up. She expects to be back in the community in two weeks and plans to bring back more donations for those who missed out this time.
