Sep 23, 2019 | 2:30 PM

The green-and-yellow provincial banner, in its current form has been flying over the skies of Prince Albert for the last half century.

Fifty years ago Sunday, as part of a province-wide ceremony, that timed the raising of the new flags at the provincial legislature at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 22, 1969. P.A. mayor Val Longworth helped raise the new provincial flag at city hall.

Michelle Taylor, manager/curator with the Prince Albert Historical Society (PAHS) explained it was also a big day for provincial students.

“Premier Ross Thatcher gave the afternoon that day to the students as a school holiday,” Taylor explained.

In the original article provided to paNOW by the PAHS, it detailed the fact that some 4,000 people entered the contest to design the new flag.
