Hear from your candidates

Humboldt Chamber hosting all candidates forum

It’s a chance for Humboldt and area residents to hear from their local federal election candidates.

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting an all candidates forum at the Bella Vista Inn Oct. 9, starting at 7 p.m.

Executive Director Brent Fitzpatrick said five of six candidates in the Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek riding have indicated they will be taking part, with the sixth finally tracked down and receptive to participating.

“[Forums are] really important because people need to have an opportunity to actually hear what these folks have to say about why they should support them,” Fitzpatrick said. “Not everybody gets to hear the candidate.”

Fitzpatrick said while people often get to see and hear what the national leaders are doing, but “the people that are representing you in this riding, you need to know who they are.”

All candidates forums are important to the chamber because it is all about getting that connection, said Fitzpatrick.

“Eventually the business community needs to know they are going to support, the residents need to know who they are going to support, and it’s just a natural extension for the Chamber of Commerce to bring all those parties together,” he said.

The candidates in the riding include incumbent Kelly Block of the Conservative Party of Canada, Jasmine Kalix of the NDP, the Green Party’s Dean Gibson, Rebecca Malo of the Liberals, Cody Payant of the People’s Party of Canada, and Independent candidate Glenn Wright.
