La Ronge RCMP set to host town hall meeting this month

Residents of the tri-communities are welcome to attend a town hall meeting Oct. 17 hosted by the La Ronge RCMP.

The event will occur at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre (JRMCC) at 7 p.m. and will serve as an opportunity for officers to engage directly with the public around local policing priorities and public safety. According to Acting-Staff Sgt. Josh Hallett, there will be some presentations and the public will have the opportunity to ask questions.

“Part of our commanding officer’s directive is we continue to consult with the residents of the community we police and we’re going to have a period of time where we’re going to offer some presentations to the people in attendance to let them know what the divisional priorities are for the RCMP, as well as what our detachment priorities are as we continue into the year,” he said.

It’s important for the public to attend the event, Hallett noted, because it’s crucial for the detachment to receive the necessary feedback to provide a policing service that’s meeting the needs of the community. He said the needs of every community is different and local officers want to know what the needs are in the tri-communities.

The event will also be a chance for residents to find out what’s happening with the RCMP throughout Saskatchewan and what provincial priorities will be moving forward.

“Last year, we had it at the Kikinahk and this year we are going to move it over to the JRMCC,” Hallett said. “There will be some refreshments afterwards and I’m hoping to have a meet and greet with as many officers as we can have there. We will also have some people from victim services and our community program officer will be there too.”
