MFD hosting open house next week

Oct 3, 2019 | 5:01 PM

The Melfort Fire Department is opening their doors to the public next week.

An open house will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Jason Everitt said the event will feature displays, tools and gear, and firetruck rides for kids.

“The whole idea is to get people down to the fire hall to see who we are, see what we do,” Everett said. “When they leave and they go back home at the end of the evening, they’ve got a better appreciation I guess of the professionals that Melfort has here providing that protection for them.”

Everitt said those in attendance can also get tools, tips and suggestions they can take back to make themselves, their families, and their homes safer.

All firefighters will be in attendance at the open house.

“I’m extremely proud of the members that we have here, just the dedication, the time that they put in, the training down at the hall, making sure all the equipment is ready to go so that when the call comes in they are ready for business,” Everitt said.

The fire hall has also undergone a number of changes in recent years, with members taking it upon themselves to make some improvements.

Everitt said there has been significant growth recently within the department, training is expanding, and new equipment has been added.

Melfort Fire Department T-shirts will also be available for purchase.

“We make a little bit, not much, on each T-shirt, but it goes back to buy more equipment down the road,” Everett said.

He encourages everyone to attend, and they are always open to chatting with anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter.
