Let's Talk Climate Change

Climate Demonstration in La Ronge

Oct 11, 2019 | 10:14 AM

There will be a Climate Demonstration TODAY, October 11 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at 1212 Hildebrand Drive in the Town of La Ronge.

We want Saskatchewan to be apart of the bigger conversation about what we can do too. We as a unified tri-community wish to bring awareness to our rising global crisis through this peaceful climate demonstration in front of the La Ronge Town Hall.

Undeniably we are at the beginning of a mass extinction.

Our precious natural systems, people, animals and so much more that we care about are at an immeasurable risk of being wiped out. As our climate rises further, the closer we get to no return. Why is it that people are silent in our community and not talking about this? One of the most in our face crises humanity is facing, yet people are choosing to not pay attention.

What do we want to do about it? We want to take a stance and bring awareness to the world and humanity’s biggest threat. From our government we want to demand action. We want to demand reform for its criminal inaction on our ecological crisis.

We want to ask for honesty, responsibility and courage to face our climate crisis head-on. We want to plead with our leaders to stop basing decisions on economic growth and take immediate action by listening to the climate and biodiversity data accumulated over the last 30 years. Plead to pay attention now, before it’s too late.

On a community-level we want to start a conversation about what we can do. Introducing the idea of cracking down on pollutants in our community with the usage of cleaner energy. Introducing more local farming and supporting the food banks and schools in their effort for a cleaner community through their gardens, stricter regulations on pollution. Also, seeking the support of local businesses to follow in the footsteps of businesses taking more sustainable routes such as Cravings etc.

We no longer want to sit around and wait for slow change. We as students want to step up against this bystander effect circulating and this ignored crisis.

Climate change is affecting our community, our future, your children’s children and so much more. We want to ask for change now before it’s too late. As a unified group of people, we want to make a difference by bringing awareness, inspire deeper discussion about what we can change. Show people that change can come from the will of the people, our citizens

Help us by supporting and joining the millions across the globe taking action and bringing awareness to our ongoing climate crisis.
