Rollover near Kinistino causes no injuries but serves as a safety reminder

A single commercial vehicle rolled off a grid road six miles south of Kinistino in the afternoon on Oct. 11.

The Melfort Fire Department determined a grain truck slowly rolled over and landed on the driver’s side along a grid road. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and got out by breaking the windshield.

Jason Everitt, Melfort’s fire chief, said commercial vehicle rollovers are rare in the northeast area, although the potential is there in the spring and autumn months.

“This time of year, there’s a significant amount of commercial vehicle traffic on the roads and grids due to harvest,” Everitt told northeastNOW. “Normally we don’t see a high prevalence of that and we’re quite happy to keep it that way.”

While no one was injured during the rollover, Everitt said the incident is a safety reminder for all drivers to be aware of their surroundings.

“We want to respect the larger vehicles on the road,” he said. “Larger vehicles require more room to move and stop, so always give them space and keep an eye on where they are. If we do that I’m sure we’ll all get to where we’re going safely.”
