
Standoff on Big Island Lake Cree Nation ends peacefully; man wanted for murder in custody
A standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside a home on the Big Island Cree Nation Sunday has ended peacefully, RCMP said.
Officers were called to home 111 in the community at around 2 p.m.
Jonathan Dufraine, 38, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the death of Zane Kiseyinewakup on Oct. 2, was taken into custody. Dufraine is charged with second-degree murder.
Over 30 RCMP officers participated in the operation, including those from Pierceland, the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team and Major Crime Unit North, as well as the North Battleford Police Dog Service.
