Tri-community residents head to the polls for 2019 federal election

Residents of the tri-communities are making their way to polling stations today to cast their vote in the 2019 Canadian federal election.

It total, there’s 338 seats in the House of Commons, which political candidates are vying for after 40 days on the campaign trail. In the Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River riding, voters can choose between incumbent NDP MP Georgina Jolibois, Tammy Cook-Searson (Liberal), Gary Vidal (Conservative), Sarah Kraynick (Green) and Jerome Perrault (People’s Party of Canada).

During advanced polls held last week, 149,043 ballots were cast in Saskatchewan representing a 55 per cent increase compared to the 2015 federal election. In Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill, 5,045 voters were cast.

Polling stations are open 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Saskatchewan.

In order to vote, residents must have a photo ID. Electors can only vote at their specific polling station and anyone outside of their riding will no longer be able to vote.
