A familiar name remains as board chair of the Horizon School Division.

Jim Hack was elected through acclamation during the board of education’s annual organizational meeting Wednesday, Nov. 13.

“I’m very humbled and honoured to be the chair of the Board of Education for Horizon School Division,” Hack said. “Our board does some very, very important and good work for all of the students in our schools within the school division.”

Hack said funding from the ministry of education continues to be a challenge for Horizon School Division.

“This year, we had some shortfalls and we managed to be able to get our budget sent in and approved,” Hack said. He added the division will continue to work on their goals going forward.

“Safe and Caring [schools], literacy and math, and the graduation rate is something that we strive to get better at every day,” Hack said.

Board chair since 2011, Hack is now serving his third term. He said there haven’t been many huge changes in the division since he became chairperson.

“We strive to have student success and school success, and we continue to do that,” Hack said. “Our relationship with the ministry has been good, so we want to continue with that.”

Hack is also trustee for subdivision 10, which includes Ituna School, Foam Lake Composite High School, Foam Lake Elementary School, and New Horizon Hutterian School.

Linda Mattock was re-elected as vice chair after a vote, a position she has had since 2018.

Mattock has also been trustee for the past three years forsSubdivision 2, which includes Humboldt Collegiate Institute, Humboldt Public School, and schools in Lake Lenore, St. Brieux, Annaheim, and Middle Lake.
