Prairie weather pendulum on the ‘positive’ upward swing

Prince Albert residents will soon see some weather-related karma headed their way.

Environment Canada is forecasting a Friday high of 4 C. Saturday will have a high of 8 C, getting very close to the weather services website-record listing of 9.4 C for Nov. 23 which was set in 1956.

“It’ll be close, but it’ll be tough [to beat though] just because there is snow cover,” Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Terri Lang said. “Getting those high temperatures is a little more difficult with snow on the ground. So we’ll have to see, maybe we’ll get lucky and be walking around with shorts and tank-tops.”

Lang warned drivers to be wary of the freeze-thaw conditions which could form black ice on roadways.

A group that might be surprisingly happy about the pleasant temperatures is the Prince Albert Trail Riders.

President Gerry Dolezsar explained the club is busy getting ready for the snowmobile season by putting up signs on their 200 kilometres of sled trails.

“It’s kind of nice to do it now, while it’s not -25 C,” Dolezsar said.

He figured they would be close to putting up all their signs before the weekend is over. After that he is hoping Mother Nature will provide some fresh powder.

“When we do get snow, we’ll be out there with the groomer packing down the trails, getting them ready for a fun and safe ride,” Dolezsar said.

He said typically their trails are ready by mid-to-late December.
