Rekindled focuses on overlooked youth

Jesse and Josh Ramshaw are focused on young adults in the community

The twin brothers started Rekindled – a young adults group geared toward 18 to 35-year-olds regardless of faith, background or gender in Meadow Lake.

“Around my early 20s, I was looking for a group that was something like this but we just didn’t have anything around town quite like this,” Jesse said. “Kind of a group where there could be young folks who together and who have aged out of what you’d consider to be a youth group but at the same time, they’re looking for a social connection, have questions about their faith, not necessarily into the church deal, might be but have questions and are looking for a safe space to chat about things in life.”

The group participates in a variety of activities including board games, visiting restaurants, watching movies and engaging each other in discussions that range from secular or faith-based, social media use even direction in life which Jesse says broadens perspectives during difficult times.

“We are so connected through social media but the more connected we are, the more disconnected we are. There’s kind of a paradox in there, it’s odd but that’s how it works. I think that just as human beings we were designed for community. We were designed to be around other people and not to be isolated. Most young adults I think would agree,” he said.

Jesse said the group is in its seventh week since launching on Oct. 11.

“This group is a place where you can come as you are and we really mean that. We’ve got people with different backgrounds, different genders, different beliefs or some with no beliefs at all,” Jesse said. “People can come the way they are, even if they’ve got baggage or swear, I don’t care. This is a group for them. No matter what, they’re welcome.”

Rekindled gets together on Friday evenings and asks for a $3 donation to cover meal costs. You can register to join the Rekindled – Young Adults Group here.
