Hands On Workshop for Teachers

North Battleford High School Teachers Play Students for a Day

Nov 26, 2019 | 10:18 AM

The Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet), a Canadian and international leader in glycomics research based at the University of Alberta, is hosting a hands-on workshop for high school teachers in North Battleford.

Educators will be invited to learn more about glycomics, a multidisciplinary field of research that studies carbohydrates (glycans) in human, animals, and the environment. The day-long workshop will provide attendees with opportunities to conduct basic experiments and learn about career possibilities in glycomics-related STEM fields.

The educators can draw on this experience to tailor the resources and activities for their use in science, biology, and chemistry classrooms across the province. This will give Saskatchewan students insight into a growing research field that offers a multitude of career possibilities in both academia and industry. The workshop is part of GlycoNet’s outreach program, carried out in partnership with the University of Alberta’s Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (CMASTE).
