Wounded Warriors Weekend coming to Meadow Lake

Dec 6, 2019 | 1:52 PM

Planning is underway for Meadow Lake’s first Wounded Warriors Weekend.

The four-day event is intended to show appreciation to veterans, active duty military, and first responders who suffer from physical or mental injuries sustained by active participation in violent conflicts.

“I’ve always wanted to have something here in Meadow Lake, to show the community what Wounded Warriors is all about and where the money goes to help veterans and first responders with PTSD,” Rick Burnett, event organizer, said.

Burnett said he is currently working on bringing Jason Gladue, PGA champion to offer a golf lesson and an NFL player to fish with attendees.

Burnett confirmed California partol officer Kevin Briggs will be in attendance. Briggs is known to have prevented Golden Gate bridge suicides for nearly 18 years.

One of the attendees will also be surprised with a service dog.

“It gets the guys who are really struggling, together and starts the healing process. [I want] to say that there are guys here to talk and to know that you’re not alone,” Burnett said.

Burnett has raised nearly $45,000 for Wounded Warriors foundation and will hold a raffle in the coming weeks to raise additional funds for the event schedules for August 10 to 15.

Donations can also be made at the Co-op admin office.
