Battleford residents who are looking for a little holiday cheer this weekend can catch an afternoon of Christmas music at the North Battleford City Kinsmen (NBCK) Band hall on Sunday.

The NBCK Band’s Baby it’s Cold Outside will feature performances from the newly formed NBCK Choir, the returning NBCK Jazz Band, and the always popular Senior Band.

Band Director Michael Alstad said they were happy to be adding the two new groups to their line-up.

“We have two groups that are new to us this year that will be performing. We have started a choir and they are going to be doing a couple of pieces,” he said. “We have sort of reinstituted the Battlefords Jazz Band. We [had a jazz band] years ago but it hasn’t been active for a number of years. We are excited for that group to be performing.”

Alstad said the Senior Band has prepared a special presentation of Baby it’s Cold Outside.

“It is a duet feature and we have a husband and wife duo that is in the band, Greg and Jennifer Corcoran, who will be the featured players in that piece,” he said.

The Senior Band will close out the show with a special presentation of a Christmas Festival where they will be joined by the choir and invite audience members to sing along with them.

The NBCK Band’s Daylight Players, Intermediate Band and All-City Winds played their Christmas show on Dec. 8. Alstad said they had between 100 and 150 people turn up for that performance.

“The first one went great. It was the younger groups and everyone performed well and it was well received by the audience,” he said.

Alstad said they are expecting a sell out of around 200 people for their show on December 15 with only a dozen tickets available at the door.

The show will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the NBCK Band Hall. Tickets are $5 and available through the band office.
