Residents of Nipawin and area have a chance to get in the Christmas spirit this Friday night.

Nipawin Winter Lights will be held at the Nipawin & District Regional Park this evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“It’s pretty cold out tonight, but we’re going to be really warm,” said organizer Susan Westgard. “We’re going to have fires lit, we’re going to have Tim Hortons hot chocolate on hand, and we just want everybody to come down.”

Diamond North Credit Union will be handing out hot chocolate at the gate as you arrive at the regional park. The displays are set up in the first four rows of the campsites in the park.

“Local businesses and community groups have decorated these sites,” said Westgard.

The Nipawin & District Chamber of Commerce are hosting a barbecue in the park, across from the playground. Goody bags will be provided for the kids, and there are also sleigh rides, provided by Melody Motors.

“As you leave the park, we’ve got the Nipawin Exhibition Association…collecting donations. There’s no charge to enter the park, but the donations are given back to the volunteer groups who help at the event,” explained Westgard.

The community used to hold the Parade of Lights downtown until the Nipawin Winter Lights display was set up at the regional park a few years ago.

Nipawin Winter Lights began last Friday night, and the final display will take place Friday, Dec. 20.
