Weekend toy run helps Children’s Hospital

A special convoy has delivered hundreds of toys for children at the Jim Pattison Children’s hospital in Saskatoon.

Saturday night’s event was organized by Jeep Saskatchewan, which raised over $2,000 through donations alone. Joe Schultz with the Association’s Prince Albert chapter told paNOW he was proud to be a part of the event.

“Well especially for the Children’s Hospital. No one should have to go through what they are going through at Christmas,” he said.

Over 40 decorated vehicles took part in the toy run Saturday night, which started at the Lawson Heights Mall parking lot in Saskatoon and proceeded slowly down Spadina Crescent. Many of the vehicles were so well decorated, someone would have a hard time guessing what their original colour was.

“We went past the skating rink, and people were stopping getting their cameras out, and people in restaurants were recording as we were going by,” Schultz said.

For Schultz, the highlight of the trip was seeing the children waving from the windows of the Children’s Hospital.

Due to the success of the event, each child staying at the hospital will pick a gift to take home. The rest of the toys will stay in the hospital’s play zone, and the leftover toys will be donated to the local food bank. All the donated toys have been pre-approved by staff in the infectious control and child life areas of the hospital.
