City launches high-tech information system

The City of Meadow Lake has launched its own notification system.

Voyent Alert! is a message information system that delivers important local information directly to community members.

Residents can receive alerts ranging from critical emergency information, municipal service disruptions, and community news along with updates from the city.

Fire Chief Neil Marsh said developers worked closely with the city for nearly two years.

“We control the messages so there is no irrelevant [content] or message fatigue that you might get with other systems where you’re hearing about things that you may not care about,” Marsh, told meadowlakeNOW.

Messages can be tailored so only those who are affected receive an alert. Localized event alerts will be sent just to the affected residents (subscribers can identify locations that they want to receive notices about, such as their home, workplace, kids’ school, spouse’s workplace, etc.)

For some alerts, subscribers will have an option to reply to questions, such as “Do you require assistance?” or “Do you plan to attend?”

The City of Meadow Lake expects Voyent Alert! to become an integral part of community communications for Meadow Lake.

“The more people who use this system, the more effective it will be. We encourage everyone to check it out. It doesn’t cost anything and its completely private,” Marsh added.

Message delivery options are offered via text message, mobile phone app, landline (automated voice call) or email.
