Informal Grief Support Group

Grassroots grief support group created for those who want to talk

A Meadow Lake woman is creating an informal support group for people in the community who are living with the weight of grief.

Angela Caplette is not formally trained in mental health or grief counselling though she says her initiative is intended to simply be there for people and form connections with people in the community who may be suffering with the loss of a loved one.

“This is more of a get-together to share stories and knowing there are others that feel the same way I do. I just want to [create] something so people don’t feel alone,” Caplette told meadowlakeNOW.

Caplette’s 20-year-old daughter passed away nearly seven years ago. She lost her father two years after that, and lost her brother in recent months. She says she seems to form connections with people who recognize and relate to her suffering.

“There’s no judgment, no commitment, nobody has to share their story. The groups intended to know there are others who feel the same way and have the same thought and that there is always somebody there,” she added.

Caplette said she was part of a grassroots support group in Lloydminster before moving back to Meadow Lake. She was inspired to replicate the group and connect with people here at home.

Angela Caplette’s support group will be meeting on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Whole Life Wellness.
