The Rock’s Ball Breaker contest wraps up with big winner

Dec 21, 2019 | 2:11 PM

It was a great day for one lucky winner as well as the Food Bank and Empty Stocking Bank.

The 93.3 The Rock Christmas Ball Breaker contest wrapped up at Frazer’s No Frills grocery store in North Battleford Friday, and the winner was announced as Alice Loweryson, who won the $2,500 cash prize.

“I’m just shaking I’m so excited,” she said. “I didn’t expect to win this. It’s going to make a good Christmas for us.”

She said it has been a hard year for the family as they have lost some loved ones so having the extra support will help them through Christmas. She plans to use the winnings to pay some bills.

To take part in the Ball Breaker contest, participants needed to donate $10 or more, or one case full of soup, that will benefit the Empty Stocking Fund and the local Food Bank. Finalists in the contest had an opportunity to break one of the Christmas decorative ornament balls, one of which contained the winning ticket, in a special celebration at Frazer’s No Frills grocery store in North Battleford.

The Empty Stocking Fund, and Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre Executive Director Erin Katerynych said the support is greatly appreciated.

“That soup has always carried us through to the Fall,” she said. “It’s fantastic.”

She added as well the company Nutrien will once again match any cash donations to the Food Bank over the holiday season as another benefit.

Frazer Bonin of Frazer`s No Frills said the Food Bank is “near and dear to our hearts.”

“We are always looking at ways how we can support Erin and the Food Bank, so this year has just been fantastic,” he said.

Bonin said it was also good to see the lucky participant pick up the cash winnings.

“There is nothing that could be better at Christmas time than a boost like this,” he said.
