Meadow Lake Skating Club hosting Skate Saskatchewan event for the first time in years

Meadow Lake Skating Club is hosting the Skate Saskatchewan Region 10 and 13 Invitational Competition for the first time in nine years.

Danielle Green, Meadow Lake Skating Club organizer told meadowlakeNOW there were some hurdles to jump through but upon the second bid, Skate Saskatchewan agreed to host the event.

“It’s a big deal and we have an executive [team] of moms who have been part of us for five years and it’s been a good culmination of efforts,“ Green said. “We’re anticipating 100 skaters from Northwestern Saskatchewan competing in three to four events. The big one is free skate solo and the skaters are judged in all events.”

Meadow Lake Skating Club will concurrently run a Valentine’s Day market at Meadow Lake Arena on the weekend of the event.

“There are always some vendors at skating competitions, I just thought to make it more of a local approach and get as many people in and open it up to the community as much as we can,” she said.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and support skaters and their efforts.

The Skating Club has tentatively booked Feb. 8 and 9 at Meadow Lake Arena but hours were not confirmed. Vendors and skaters can expect to commit to the full weekend.

Any local vendors interested in participating in the Valentines’s Day market can get in touch with Meadow Lake Skating Club.
