Third Quarter Report

Traffic offences on the rise in Meadow Lake

Jan 14, 2020 | 4:03 PM

Meadow Lake RCMP released their third quarter statistics to council in a closed meeting on Monday and some of the results are staggering.

Sgt. Tim Sartison with the Meadow Lake detachment told meadowlakeNOW, crime in the region remains steady, though traffic offences and collisions have nearly doubled.

“That’s significant and a result of the Traffic Services Unit that we have in Meadow Lake now,” he said.

Local police reported 580 provincial traffic offences to date. That number increased from 269 infractions reported this time last year.

Traffic collisions are also up in the region. Police reported 66 collisions in the region to date. That number has nearly doubled from the 49 collisions reported last year.

The Traffic Services Unit was established in the region in 2018.

In 2017, 30 collisions were reported in the region and 241 traffic offences were reported for the year.

RCMP release their statistics quarterly with the annual numbers to be released in April 2020.
