Commercial waste contractors needed in Meadow Lake

Jan 15, 2020 | 12:19 PM

The Ministry of Central Services Asset Management is calling waste and recycling contractors to compete for commercial waste management contracts in Meadow Lake.

Jim Wassing, building operator with Central Services told meadowlakeNOW, the commercial waste removal contract is near expiry and he would like to see outside contractors compete for the business.

“We have an environmental company locally, but we’re looking to see if anyone else is interested from out of town. The prices for waste removal has gone way up so we’re looking to get the best price,” Wassing said.

The work consists of providing labour, equipment, and materials for waste disposal and paper recycling at the Meadow Lake Area.

“Anytime our contracts become due, they automatically go on Sasktenders. What it does is it makes a fair playing field for anybody in and out of town to put in a bid and supply the services,” Wassing said.

In an email to meadowlakeNOW the provincial government said it was their standard practice to post an open, competitive competition for contracts like this one, as they near expiry.

“It is important to note that the recent release of the competition for this service is not a reflection of the quality of the work of our current vendor. Any supplier is welcome to bid on this competition, and we invite the current vendor to bid once again,” the statement read.

Offers will be received until 2 p.m.on the Jan. 27.

Editor’s note: this article was amended Jan.16 to reflect additional comment from the provincial government.
