Melfort man charged with drug and weapons offenses

A Melfort man faces drug and weapons charges after arrests near Wakaw on Thursday.

The Prince Albert Crime Reduction team arrested two males and three females in a vehicle at the Shell Gas Station near Wakaw Jan. 30, as part of an ongoing investigation.

Melfort RCMP and the Prince Albert Integrated Street Enforcement Team also helped execute a search warrant at a home on Stovel Ave. in Melfort.

The arrests and subsequent search yielded 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine, other drug paraphernalia, and a replica handgun.

45 year old Barkley Swenson of Melfort faces charges including possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon while prohibited, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Swenson has been remanded into custody, and will appear in Melfort Provincial Court Feb. 6.

He was sentenced to four months in jail in 2018 in a separate case involving possession of stolen property.
