Stars fall 5-3 to Broncos in Humboldt, as rivals split weekend series

The Battlefords North Stars fell 5-3 to the Humboldt Broncos, Saturday night in Humboldt.

Logan Foster, Tristian Shewchuk and Karter McNarland led the way for the homeside with a goal and an assist each, while Logan Kurki and Kade Olsen also cashed in for the Broncos.

Between the pipes, goaltender Michael Harroch stopped 29-of-32 Stars’ shots for the win.

Austin Becker, Jaxon Steele and Ben Hiltz scored a goal apiece for the Stars in the defeat, while Adam Dmyterko made 34 saves on 38 shots.

With the victory, the Broncos put an end to the Stars’ seven game winning streak, while simultaneously snapping a two-game skid of their own.

The win improves the Broncos’ record to 22-19-8 on the season. With 52 points, Humboldt remain two points up on Estevan for seventh overall in the playoff race.

The Stars are now 39-8-2 record on the season, and with 80 points, remain 15 ahead of second place in the league standings.

The North Stars will return to action Fri., Feb. 7 at the Civic Centre, as the team will welcome the Melfort Mustangs to town. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m. on NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey. on 1050 CJNB.
