Saturday’s Rush game shines a light on North Battleford

The spotlight will be on North Battleford this Saturday when the Saskatchewan Rush play the Colorado Mammoth.

The Saskatchewan Rush are doing a Hometown Spotlight Series at all of their home games this year. They choose a rural community to highlight and take an in-depth look into the communities and people that make Saskatchewan great.

For Saturday’s game, the Rush will be highlighting North Battleford in their Hometown Spotlight.

Landon Chambers, a fan experience executive with the Saskatchewan Rush, talked about their inspiration behind highlighting the Battlefords.

“Myself growing up in North Battleford I thought it was a great opportunity to spotlight North Battleford,” he said. “Sometimes there is negative publicity associated with North Battleford so we thought it was a great opportunity to showcase what it’s really about.”

Chambers said there will be a lot of local representation from the Battlefords in attendance at the game.

“The council will be in attendance and there will be a bus load of fans as well. Mayor Bater will be banging the Nutrien fan drum to start the game off which is bit of a Rush tradition. We want to showcase the community to the fan base,” he said.

North Battleford Mayor Ryan Bater said he was excited about the opportunity to take in a Rush game and highlight some of the things North Battleford has to offer.

“They are celebrating our community so it is an opportunity for all Rush fans to be exposed to what North Battleford has to offer,” he said. “For Rush fans from our community it is an opportunity to celebrate together with a provincial audience.”

Bater said this will be his first Saskatchewan Rush game and he is excited to see if it lives up to the fantastic reputation he has heard from all the fans around the Battlefords.

There is also an opportunity for local teams or organizations to use this event as a fundraiser. Bater was excited about the opportunity for local groups to get involved with the event.

“Local teams or non-profits can contact the Rush and they will provide a link that they can use [to sell tickets to the game],” he added. “The group can get some money back from those ticket sales,” he said. “If a local team or group was to register and promote ticket sales they will get back $8 from each ticket. All you have to do is contact the Rush and they will provide a link.”

This Saturday’s game will be at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon at 7:30 p.m.

“I just think it is a really great opportunity for our city to be promoted in a very positive way, in a fun environment with a provincial audience.”
