Melfort liquor outlet to be built at StoneGate Shopping Centre

New details are emerging about an upcoming liquor outlet in Melfort.

Melfort Liquor Loft owner Trent Zwingli told northeastNOW the outlet will be located at the StoneGate Shopping Centre on Highway 6 south.

“The lot is going to be located between the Canalta [Hotel] and Boston Pizza,” Zwingli said.

The outlet will be in a stand-alone building, and construction could begin in April or May.

Zwingli said he chose to purchase a lot at StoneGate because there is a lot of traffic, and he expects more businesses in the area in the future.

The building will not just be a traditional liquor store, Zwingli said.

“We’re going to have an area that we will rent out to the public for Christmas events, birthday parties, office parties, just a rental for whatever people need,” he added.

That part of the building will have a separate entrance from the liquor store itself. It will be located in a second floor loft, which will overlook the golf course. Zwingli said people will be able to look out the large windows toward the course.

The liquor store will have the traditional favourites, along with a lot of Saskatchewan-based products. There will be some confectionary items, potentially some cheeses and gourmet meats.

Zwingli received Melfort’s retail liquor store permit at after he was the winning bidder of the permit auction that closed Dec. 6.

The Melfort Liquor Loft is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
