A Melfort man responsible for a break and enter in the city was given a 222-day sentence.

Tyrone Allen Rogers, 34, appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on Tuesday, Feb. 11 where he pleaded guilty to fraud, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, break and enter, and breach of undertaking. He was sentenced to 222 days that will be served concurrently followed by a 12-month probation.

“[Judge Margaret Gordon] had a joint submission, where defence counsel and I reached a resolution of the charges and came to an agreement,” Crown Prosecutor Lori O’Connor said. “Everyone likes a joint submission because it allows both the Crown and defence to have a sense of certainty. Unless it’s outside the public interest, the judge doesn’t overrule a joint submission. We thought this was an appropriate sentence for him, especially given that he pled guilty.”

The charges stem from when Rogers was arrested on Dec. 30, 2019. RCMP arrested him after responding to a break and enter complaint at a business on Main Street in Melfort.
