Winter festival underway, Junior King and Queen Trappers named
There’s plenty to do in the coming week as the 2020 Lac La Ronge Winter Festival is in full swing.
Events began Feb. 28 and will end March 8 with the crowning of the King and Queen Trappers. Festivities began last Friday with a talent show and Saturday proved to be busy with festivities such as a minor hockey breakfast fundraiser, an atom hockey tournament, gospel jamboree, cribbage tournament and the Junior King and Queen Trapper Competition, which was won by Morgan Mercredi and Danielle Ratt who each received $300.
“We increased the number of our participants and the weather held out,” Festival Organizer Kevin Roberts said. “We had some great adult volunteers coming out and giving a hand to a great event. We’re in our second year of hosting it now and we’re looking forward to continuing it. It’s a good event for kids, not just to compete, but showcase the northern lifestyle.”
A new addition is the Festival Queen Pageant, which Roberts mentioned was brought back after many years. The winner was determined by who could sell the most tickets and Dalynn McKenzie won after selling 4,800. In her role, she will make public appearances at events during the week.
