Arts Hall of Fame now has permanent presence

The Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame now has a permanent physical presence at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre.

The P.A. Arts Board officially unveiled a digital interactive display Tuesday which showcases those who have been inducted. The display also allows the public to learn about those who’ve been honoured.

Board member Cara Stelmaschuk said having a permanent physical display is important.

“We always felt like we should really be reminding people of the milestones that we have in arts and culture in Prince Albert,” she said.

The Hall of Fame was established by the P.A. Arts Board in 2014. A range of people and groups have been inducted since it was established, ranging from performers to those who have helped build up arts and culture in P.A.

Before the digital unveiling the Hall of Fame only had an online presence. Stelmaschuk said it makes lots of sense to have the display at the Rawlinson Centre, given its history and significance.

“We came together to make the Arts Hall of Fame, we came together to make the Rawlinson Centre, so here it is all in one place,” she said.

The digital display also features videos, photos and information. Stelmaschuk said visitors will also be able to watch the induction videos of the people and organizations.

“I wouldn’t want to condense down to a screen of text and a picture,” she said.

A number of people were on hand to see the display officially unveiled. Some of those included past inductees to the Hall of Fame including Paul Lomheim and Malcolm Jenkins.

Jenkins, who was inducted in 2015 as an arts builder, said there are many people who have been recognized for doing good work and aren’t always remembered.

“Here’s a way to keep that public rather than just have one magic night and send them off,” he said.

The Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations for their 2020 class and Stelmaschuk said they are expecting to announce those in September.
