Carlton students welcome new space

Van Steelandt explained before the new room opened up they didn’t have one big room to work in but rather had to make use of smaller recording spaces around the building.

As part of the grand opening, students were invited to drop in and see the new facility. Van Steelandt said she heard good things from students with many inquiring about getting involved in media production.

“We have way more kids showing up for media club at lunch and we have kids who are stopping by and saying ‘How do I get involved in stop motion,’” she said.

Croben Benson, a Grade 12 student learning photography, said he appreciates the new studio.

“It’s nice and open. Lots of space for creativity,” he said.

Benson added the extra space provides more room to set up equipment and gives him a chance to set up different photo stations. He said before the new studio, photography students were in a regular classroom.

Hserkler Taw, another Grade 12 photography student, called the space “amazing.”
