Man charged in connection with hit and run death

Onion Lake RCMP have laid charges following a lengthy investigation into an incident that happened almost two years ago.

On the afternoon of May 14, 2018, Onion Lake RCMP were called to the scene of a deceased person located in a slough next to Nine Mile Road in Onion Lake.

The deceased was identified as 31-year-old Shane Opissinow from Onion Lake Cree Nation.

The Investigation determined Opissinow died as a result of a hit and run.

Thirty-one-year-old Danny Boy Thunder Makokis of Onion Lake has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
