Gold Eagle Lodge named a finalist in Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence

The Gold Eagle Lodge is thrilled to be named among the finalists in the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence competition.

The North Battleford business is one of three businesses selected as finalists for the Tourism Employer of the Year Award.

Gold Eagle Lodge HR manager and interim general manager Tisha Carriere said she was excited when she heard the news.

She said the staff make the Gold Eagle Lodge a great place to stay.

“Every staff member here is amazing,” Carriere said. “We’re so lucky to have them. Showing them they are appreciated, it just makes them know that what they do here makes a difference. If our associates are happy, then our guests are going to be happy as well.”

The Gold Eagle Lodge has 48 employees in total. Staff are offered a comprehensive benefits package.

“We do work very hard to make sure that all of the employees needs are taken care of – such as wellness days, an RRSP matching program,” she said.

The company ensures staff are also well versed on many tourism destinations and local attractions in the area.

Carriere said staff are also trained to industry standards.

“We spend a lot of time doing hands-on training when the associates are first hired,” Carriere said. “Then, we also spend a lot of time with the Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council, training [staff] directly in each [of their] independent fields.”

“Investment in our staff is very, very important,” she added. “We definitely train and encourage everybody to move up through the ranks here. Everybody here is a leader. They wouldn’t be here in the industry if they weren’t leaders. It’s very important to us that we promote from within, because they understand what the Gold Eagle Lodge is, who we are and why we do the things that we do.”

Tourism Saskatchewan received close to 90 nominations in 13 award categories, including marketing, service, business practices, Indigenous tourism, and human resource development, to name a few. In total, 33 finalists and three Tourism Builders were announced for this year’s Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence.

“The Government of Saskatchewan congratulates this year’s finalists and Tourism Builders,” Gene Makowsky, Minister Responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan, said in a release. “The Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence Gala pays tribute to their inspiring leadership and contributions to Saskatchewan’s growing tourism sector.”

The finalists and award recipients will be honoured at the 31st annual Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence Gala on April 2 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott in Regina. The ceremony will take place following the 2020 HOST Saskatchewan Conference.
