Service providers facing high demand during pandemic

Solving internet issues is already a weekly priority, but for Battlefords residents stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, being able to use the worldwide web is even more important. As a result, internet providers are taking precautionary measures to keep interactions between employees and customers at a minimum, while continuing to provide service.

Companies are following guidelines given by both provincial and federal health organizations to help prevent the spread of contagions, such as increased sanitization, travel restrictions and self-isolation following travel. For the time being, home appointments are still a go, provided social-distancing requirements are met.

“If our field representatives visit your home, know that they will also be following recommended Saskatchewan Health Authority protocols,” Access Communications CEO Jim Deane said in a statement on the company’s website.

This comes after demands across the province have skyrocketed, with several service providers fielding record numbers of phone calls. That could increase in the Battlefords, with Access Communications closing all of its retail stores across the province today, including the North Battleford location.

For members who struggle to pay their monthly bill because of economic shifts from the pandemic, providers are offering benefits. SaskTel has waived data overage charges for the remainder of March and both SaskTel and Access are featuring multiple complimentary channels.

“We are fully prepared to deliver on the increased demand for internet services to keep you connected to your friends and family, workplace and the latest news and entertainment,” Deane said.
