A local woman is urging the community to stay positive and laugh during the ongoing self-isolation period.

Christa How, Education Assistant at Lakeview Elementary School told meadowlakeNOW, she initiated a local heart-hunt after being inspired by similar efforts in her hometown of North Battleford.

“It’s bringing your community together when you can’t physically be together,” she said.

How is caring for kids at home and keeping them entertained by decorating heart cut-outs and placing them in windows for the public to appreciate while social distancing or self-isolating.

“There are lots of people going for walks and counting them,” she said. “I’ve seen [Facebook] posts where there’s 250-plus hearts being found on a walk or a drive, just in Meadow,” How said.

Decorated hearts are hanging from trees, windows, on houses and parks. According to How, Loon Lake is displaying teddy bears, stuffed toys and building snowmen to spread cheer to individuals who are outside walking or performing essential services.

“Not only is a heart-hunt for kids and getting families to do crafts in the house, it’s about showing support for everyone who are out working too,” she said.

How has two young children at home and has been keeping them entertained with FaceTime calls with family members who dress-up and dance to keep her little ones laughing.

“I think laughing is helping us get though this,” she said. “We watch silly videos and animal videos and having kids laugh is really important in keeping things light and humorous.”
